Plot summary
Gabi and Winston work for South Africa's forestry service, surveying the Tsitsikamma forest from a boat on the river. When the drone Gabi is piloting goes down among the trees, she goes ashore alone to fetch it. She triggers a trap and a wooden stake goes through her foot; she pulls it free and presses deeper into the forest as night falls. In a wooden house she finds shelter and rest. Barend and Stefan, the father and son who live there, come upon her and see to her injury. The two live off the grid and speak of the forest with a mysterious devotion. Winston hears her scream and goes into the trees to find her.
