Plot summary
Sarah Cain writes a column for the Portland Times, and her boss Bill Alexander tells her that her recent pieces are not as good as her earlier work. She is at dinner with her boyfriend Bryan Ford when her niece Lyddie calls. Sarah has never met Lyddie, who says that her mother Ivy, Sarah's older sister, has died of heart failure. Sarah travels to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania for the funeral and learns that a court expects her to raise Ivy's five children, or they will go into foster care.
