Plot summary
Flora is an elephant that works in a circus, but she can no longer perform her tricks. She is scheduled to be euthanized. The night before the euthanization is to take place, Dawn, who is fourteen years old and the daughter of the circus owner, sneaks the elephant out of the circus. Dawn's goal is to reach an elephant preserve. The preserve is two hundred kilometers away. The journey will take them through woods and across a raging river. Two elephant hunters are also in their path. Dawn is afraid that she and Flora will not make it to the preserve.
