Walter Reed

Biography

Walter Reed was an American actor who worked in theater, film and television, breaking into movies in 1941 after a stint on Broadway. Born in Fort Ward, Washington, he made several features for RKO Radio Pictures, among them the final two Mexican Spitfire comedies, in which he took over the part from Buddy Rogers. He was perhaps best remembered for playing a spineless wagon driver in the western 7 Men from Now (1956), and he appeared in the first Superman theatrical feature, Superman and the Mole-Men (1951). In 1951 he made two serials for Republic Pictures, which spliced old footage of the lookalike Ralph Byrd into his scenes; he declined more, not wanting to be typecast. After some 90 films and many television parts, including The Lone Ranger, Perry Mason, The Restless Gun and Gunsmoke, he left acting in the late 1960s and became a real estate broker and investor in Santa Cruz, California. He died in 2001.
