Wally Cassell
Biography
Wally Cassell was an Italian-born American character actor who began making films in 1942, at first in small and uncredited parts. Born in Agrigento, Sicily, he moved to the United States with his family at age two, and he danced as a youngster before turning to acting. Mickey Rooney suggested he change his name to Wally Cassell and helped him get a screen test and sign with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. His credits included The Story of G.I. Joe (1945), The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946), The Guilty (1947), White Heat (1949), Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), Quicksand (1950), Island in the Sky (1953), City That Never Sleeps (1953) and Until They Sail (1957). He was cast in two syndicated television shows with Jim Davis, Stories of the Century and Rescue 8, and he guest-starred in Gunsmoke, The Untouchables, Rawhide and The Beverly Hillbillies. He stepped away from acting in 1964, became a businessman and died in 2015.
