Tom Poston

Tom Poston was an American actor whose television work ran from the 1950s into the early 2000s, and he reportedly appeared in more sitcoms than any other actor. Born in Columbus, Ohio, he served as a pilot in World War II, then studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. His early screen work included City That Never Sleeps (1953). He won a 1959 Emmy Award for his comedic Man in the Street turns on The Steve Allen Show, and later stayed in New York, taking stage parts and making game show appearances. In the 1980s he played George Utley, the Stratford Inn handyman, on Newhart, earning three Emmy nominations. His films included Zotz! (1962), The Old Dark House (1963), Soldier in the Rain (1963), Cold Turkey (1971), Up the Academy (1980) and Carbon Copy (1981).
