Biography

Stephen Walters is an English actor known for unpredictable and complex character roles. Born in Merseyside in 1975, he made his screen debut as a teenager in Dramarama and later trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. His early television work included Blood on the Dole (1994) and the BAFTA-winning drama Hillsborough (1996). He went on to appear in series such as Buried, Skins, and Outlander, where he played Angus Mhor from 2014 to 2016. On film, he played Dennis in Plunkett & MacLeane (1999), Shanks in Layer Cake (2004), Irish Joe in Revolver (2005), Zigmas Milko in Hannibal Rising (2007), and a dual role in Franklyn (2008). He also featured in Age of Heroes (2011) and Kelly + Victor (2012). Walters received Royal Television Society nominations for Ragged in 2013 and Anne in 2023.

    Stephen Walters was cast in ITV's Dramarama in 1989 while he was still a pupil at St. Wilfrids secondary school, playing Corporal Tomkins in the episode "Ghost Story".

  2. Early training

    After his performance as Joey Jackson in the 1994 Channel 4 television film Blood on the Dole won critical acclaim, Alan Bleasdale advised Walters to apply for drama school, and he went on to train at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School from 1994 to 1996.

    Already an accomplished musician, Walters played failed rock star Johnny in the 2017 series Tin Star and was featured both singing and playing the guitar.

    Walters was unable to reprise his role as Crispin Ingham in a second series of The Village because of a scheduling conflict with filming Outlander.
