Sheila Ryan
Biography
Sheila Ryan was an American screen performer with more than sixty film appearances. After growing up in Topeka, Kansas, she moved to Hollywood in 1939 at eighteen and got her start through an audition at W6XAO, a Los Angeles television outlet that later became KCBS. Hollywood directors placed her among the thirteen baby stars named for 1940, and 20th Century Fox signed her that year, initially crediting her as Bettie McLaughlin. Once she adopted the name Sheila Ryan, she played the lead in the crime drama Dressed to Kill (1941). Her subsequent credits included Laurel and Hardy's Great Guns (1941) and A-Haunting We Will Go (1942), a Busby Berkeley musical called The Gang's All Here (1943), several Charlie Chan and Michael Shayne pictures, and low-budget westerns with Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. She also acted on television in The Lone Ranger and retired from performing in 1968.
