Rolfe Sedan
Biography
Rolfe Sedan was an American character actor who started out in vaudeville and nightclub performing before moving into East Coast theater, making his Broadway debut in 1916 and his first film for Metro Pictures Corporation in 1921. Born in New York City, he became a prolific bit-part player, often uncredited, typecast as clerks, train conductors, postmen, cooks and waiters. Among his roles were the hotel manager in Ninotchka (1939) and the train conductor in Young Frankenstein (1974), and he appeared uncredited in The Wizard of Oz (1939) and in Marx Brothers comedies such as Monkey Business (1931) and A Night at the Opera (1935). He returned to Broadway in the 1940s and later took guest roles on television, including recurring parts as mail carriers on The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show and The Addams Family. He also acted in radio dramas.

A change of course
Sedan found it hard to break into radio acting. After six months of auditions that went nowhere, he landed his first role, despite having acted in films for 22 years by that point.
