Robin Bailey
Biography
Robin Bailey was an English actor known for upper class and tradition-bound roles on stage, film, television and radio. Born in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, he worked at the Post Office and the War Office before amateur dramatics led him to the theater; his first stage appearance came in 1938 at Nottingham's Theatre Royal in The Barretts of Wimpole Street. After army service he returned to the stage in Birmingham, and his film debut followed in 1946 with Peter Ustinov's School for Secrets. In 1947 he made his London stage debut at the Piccadilly Theatre as Ludovico in Othello, and his first television appearance came in 1950. He led an Australian production of My Fair Lady, and later played Mr Justice Graves in Rumpole of the Bailey and Uncle Mort in the BBC adaptation I Didn't Know You Cared from 1975 to 1979. His other television roles included Potter and Bleak House, and he recorded audiobooks. He died in 1999.
