Richard Beymer
Biography
American actor Richard Beymer, who also works as a filmmaker and visual artist, was born in Avoca in 1938. He started out as a child actor on Los Angeles television in Sandy Dreams and made his feature debut in Vittorio De Sica's Stazione Termini (1953). He appeared in Johnny Tremain (1957) before playing Peter van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank (1959). His performance as Tony in West Side Story (1961) earned him a Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year. He then appeared in High Time (1960), Hemingway's Adventures of a Young Man (1962), The Longest Day (1962) and The Stripper (1963). In the 1970s he wrote, produced, directed and starred in the experimental feature The Innerview, which received the Josef von Sternberg Award at the 1974 Mannheim-Heidelberg International Filmfestival. He later played Ben Horne in Twin Peaks (1990 to 1991, 2017) and appeared in My Girl 2 (1994) and Foxfire (1996).

First role
For three years, Beymer acted in Los Angeles on the television show Sandy Dreams. He rehearsed after school during the week and recorded on Saturdays, and the show ended when he was 13.

During that period, Beymer made the award-winning documentary A Regular Bouquet: Mississippi Summer in 1964, which showed volunteers working to register African-Americans to vote.
Early training
Beymer began taking classes every day at the Actors Studio. He explained that he simply wanted to learn and to be as professional as he could.
