Renzo Cesana
Biography
Renzo Cesana was an Italian-born actor, composer and songwriter who became best known for playing the title character on the American television series The Continental. He came to the United States from Rome in 1929 to write screen adaptations of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer talkies for Italian viewers, and when a try at movie stardom did not work out he turned to radio in San Francisco and then to advertising, running his own agency. He helped write and acted in Stromboli (1950), a film by Roberto Rossellini, and afterward built a Hollywood career in film and television. He devised The Continental for a Los Angeles radio station in 1951 and later starred in a television version that CBS picked up in 1952, which brought him a recording contract with Capitol Records. He also appeared on That Girl and Bewitched in 1967, and died in 1970.

Renzo Cesana created, produced, wrote and starred in The Continental, a radio program he made for a Los Angeles station in 1951, and then persuaded a local TV station to air a video version that CBS picked up in 1952.
Beyond film
The program brought Cesana a recording contract with Capitol Records. Though he was not a singer, he recited romantic song lyrics to music, and "Walk The Lonesome Night" became a big hit.
