Paul Maxwell
Biography
Paul Maxwell was a Canadian actor who built most of his career in British cinema and television, where he was typically cast as American characters. Born in Winnipeg and educated at Yale University, he began acting in the United States with appearances in series including Dragnet and Alfred Hitchcock Presents before moving to Britain in 1960. There he worked frequently for ITC Entertainment on shows such as Danger Man and The Baron, and voiced characters for Gerry Anderson, notably Colonel Steve Zodiac in Fireball XL5 (1962) and Captain Grey in Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. On screen he played the Man with the Panama Hat in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), Van Leuwen in Aliens (1986) and General Maxwell Taylor in A Bridge Too Far (1977), and he appeared in the soap opera Coronation Street as Steve Tanner in 1967. He also worked in the West End theater and died in 1991.
