Nicky Henson

Biography

Nicky Henson was a British actor who trained at RADA, where he moved from the stage management course into acting, and he began his career in the theater. Born in London, the son of the comedian Leslie Henson, he joined the Young Vic Company and played Pozzo in Waiting for Godot, and he appeared as Mordred in the 1964 London production of Camelot. His film work included Witchfinder General (1968), Mosquito Squadron (1969), There's a Girl in My Soup (1970) and Psychomania (1973), and he moved up to leads in The Bawdy Adventures of Tom Jones and No. 1 of the Secret Service (1977) before going back to supporting parts in Vera Drake and Syriana (2005). On television he was a guest in Fawlty Towers, The Bill, Inspector Morse and Downton Abbey. He had a period with the Royal Shakespeare Company, was nominated for a 1998 Olivier Award, and later directed plays in London. He died in 2019.

Henson joined RADA on the stage management course since he was too young for the acting course, and the next year he moved over to acting as planned.
