Melissa Sagemiller
Biography
Melissa Sagemiller is an American former actress who worked in film and television from 2001 to 2014. Born in Washington, D.C., she studied dance from age three and made her stage debut at nine in To Kill a Mockingbird. After earning a degree in art history, she returned to acting and trained at the Stella Adler Conservatory, NYU's Stonestreet Studio, and Michael Howard Studios. She became known for roles in teen films such as Get Over It (2001) and Sorority Boys (2002), and starred in the thriller Soul Survivors (2001). Her other films include The Clearing (2004), The Guardian (2006), and Mr. Woodcock (2007). On television, she starred in Sleeper Cell from 2005 to 2006 and Raising the Bar from 2008 to 2009, and had a recurring role as A.D.A. Gillian Hardwicke on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit from 2010 to 2011.

A role that slipped away
Sagemiller was cast as a lead on the Chicago Fire spinoff Chicago P.D. in 2013, but she left the project during pre-production.
First role
Sagemiller started learning tap, ballet, jazz and modern dance when she was 3. At 9 she first appeared on stage in To Kill a Mockingbird, then became a regular performer on her local stage.
Early training
After she finished school, Sagemiller chose to act full-time again and trained at the Stella Adler Conservatory, New York University's Stonestreet Studio and Michael Howard Studios.
A change of course
At 14, Eileen Ford discovered Sagemiller in a jewelry shop, and modeling came before acting for a time. She later quit modeling to study art history at the University of Virginia.
