Plot summary
Cassie, a college freshman, goes to a nightclub set in an old church with her boyfriend Sean, her ex-boyfriend Matt and her friend Annabel. On the dance floor a masked man tries to grab her; she pushes him off and steps outside with Sean. Matt, who has followed them, persuades Cassie to kiss him goodbye, and Sean, seeing it, refuses to speak to her as they drive away. Cassie keeps taking her eyes off the road, and the car crashes. Matt and Annabel walk away unhurt, while Sean dies at the scene. Back at school, Cassie sees visions of Sean and of the masked man and the scarred dancer in her friends' company. Matt and Annabel say the chases are all in her mind, and after one of them a young priest, Father Jude, comes to her aid.
