Matthew McNulty

Matthew McNulty is a German-born British actor who was born in Hanover and grew up in Berlin and Münster before his family settled in Atherton, Greater Manchester, when he was 10. A lead role in a school play at 15 led him toward acting, and he was taking drama classes in Manchester when a casting director asked him to try out for his first film, fitting auditions around demolition work. He drew early notice as David Smith in the BAFTA-winning See No Evil: The Moors Murders, then led the BAFTA-winning Channel 4 film The Mark of Cain (2007). In 2009 he appeared as the young Eric in the Ken Loach film Looking for Eric and as Luis Buñuel in Little Ashes (2008). His television credits include Lark Rise to Candleford, Misfits, and period dramas such as The Musketeers and Versailles, and since 2021 he has played Gaius, the future Emperor Augustus, in Domina. He also appeared in Greatest Days (2023).
