Plot summary
Rachel, a nurse in London, wins tickets in a radio contest to a reunion concert in Athens by The Boys, the boy band she loved as a girl. Her partner Jeff has proposed several times, and each time she has said no. She takes a caravan north, where Jeff finds her, and tells him she has decided to ask Heather, Zoe and Clare, friends from her hometown whom she has not seen in 25 years, to go with her. The five of them, Debbie included, had been devoted followers of the band at school. Heather made her own clothes from jumble-sale finds and thought about boys, Zoe aimed to become a dean at a university college, and Clare was training as an Olympic diver. The four women set off for Athens.
