Lisa Gastoni
Biography
Lisa Gastoni is an Italian film actress, born in Alassio and moved to England in 1948. She gave up an early interest in architecture to work as a model and actress. During the 1950s she appeared in B movies and played Giulia in the ITV series The Four Just Men (1959), later taking guest roles in Danger Man. In the 1960s she returned to Italy and began with sword-and-sandal and swashbuckler pictures before attracting the notice of respected directors. Her work in Salvatore Samperi's Grazie, zia proved a turning point, leading to a decade of roles as alluring but emotionally hollow bourgeois women who could be cruel, arrogant, sad, and sympathetic by turns. She received the Nastro d'Argento and a Golden Globe from Italy's foreign press association as best actress in 1966. She stepped away from acting in 1979 to paint and write, then returned to the screen in 2005 with Sacred Heart.
