Keith Moon
Biography
Keith Moon was an English drummer best known as a member of the Who, joining in 1964 before the band recorded its first single. Born in northwest London and raised in Wembley, he took up drums in the early 1960s after playing with local groups, and his style, built around tom-toms, cymbal crashes and drum fills, shaped the Who's sound. Along with Ginger Baker, he was credited as an early rock drummer to use double bass drums regularly. He also acted in films, including 200 Motels (1971), Stardust (1974), Tommy (1975) and Sextette (1978), and appeared in the concert film The Kids Are Alright. Praise for his drumming continued after his death: in 1982 he was given a posthumous place in the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame, and in 1990 he entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Who. A 2011 Rolling Stone readers' poll named him the second-greatest drummer in history.

A first
Moon's only solo album, Two Sides of the Moon, featured him on vocals but on drums for just three tracks, with Ringo Starr and session players covering the rest.
Own stunts
During The Who's 1974 tour, at a Madison Square Garden show, Townshend and Entwistle spontaneously stopped playing "Waspman" to hear Moon's drum solo. Moon played a bit, then halted and shouted, "Drum solos are boring!"
Early training
Moon took drum lessons at ten shillings each from Carlo Little, one of the loudest drummers of the day, who played with Screaming Lord Sutch.
Behind the camera
Moon was credited with writing "Tommy's Holiday Camp" because he came up with the idea, though Townshend actually wrote the song and sang the album version.
About the name
Moon played timpani on a cover of "Ol' Man River" for a 1966 session with Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, and was credited on the album as "You Know Who".
