John Pickard
Biography
John M. Pickard was an American actor known for his work in television Westerns. Born in Lascassas, Tennessee, and trained at the Nashville Conservatory in Nashville, he started with small, mostly uncredited film parts in 1936, beginning with Mary of Scotland. He returned to acting after the war and took supporting roles in many Westerns and action dramas, including Wake of the Red Witch (1948), and co-starred with Walter Reed in the serial Government Agents vs. Phantom Legion (1951). His leading role was Captain Shank Adams in the syndicated series Boots and Saddles from 1957 to 1958. Guest spots followed on a 1956 episode of The Lone Ranger, twelve episodes of Gunsmoke between 1960 and 1975, and four appearances on Perry Mason, among many Western and drama series. He played Frank Ross in True Grit (1969), and his final screen appearance came in a 1987 episode of Simon & Simon. He died in 1993.
