Plot summary
Korean War veteran Jeff Warren drives passenger trains for the Central National line and, back home, boards again with Alec Simmons, a man he crews with. Alec's daughter Ellen is smitten with him, but Jeff is involved with Vicki Buckley, whose husband Carl drinks heavily and works as an assistant yard supervisor. Carl loses that post after talking back to his boss and asks Vicki to call on John Owens, a major railroad customer who once employed her mother, hoping Owens will get him reinstated. When Vicki stays away for hours, Carl decides she has been unfaithful, attacks her, and threatens to kill her unless she admits to an affair with Owens.
