    In The World of Suzie Wong, Fujioka began as an understudy, a part he went on to play both on Broadway and with the national touring company.

  2. Big break

    In Stanley Kramer's The Court Martial of the Tiger of Malaya, Fujioka took the part of General Tomoyuki Yamashita, a role that brought his breakthrough in 1974.

  3. Getting ready for a role

    Fujioka played the Samurai warrior Todo in 1982 on the ABC adventure show Tales of the Gold Monkey, where his character led a private army guarding Princess Kogi's trading ships in the South Seas. He trained in Japanese swordsmanship under Master Tak Kubota.

  4. A change of course

    Before acting, Fujioka served in the U.S. Army from 1944, interpreting Japanese documents in Washington, D.C., and later joining the occupation forces in Japan.

    While studying sociology at Elmhurst College in Illinois, Fujioka worked part-time as a Polynesian dancer at Honolulu Harry's Club Waikiki.
