Jill Esmond
Biography
Jill Esmond was an English actress who worked in theater and film. She was born in London to a pair of stage actors and chose acting at fourteen, making her stage debut as Wendy in Peter Pan. Her early success was brief, but she went on to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and rejoined the West End stage in 1924. A year later she acted opposite her mother in Mary, Mary Quite Contrary. More successful roles followed, and she received critical praise for her work in Outward Bound. In 1942 she appeared on Broadway in Emlyn Williams's play The Morning Star, a production that also introduced Gregory Peck to the stage. Her screen and stage work became less frequent as time passed, and she gave her last film performance in 1955. That same period brought two television turns as Eleanor of Aquitaine in The Adventures of Robin Hood.
