Biography

Jerry Seinfeld is an American comedian, actor, and writer whose observational humor made him a leading stand-up performer. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Massapequa, New York, he studied communications and theater at Queens College before starting at open-mic nights in New York City. After a 1981 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, he became a frequent television guest. He co-created the NBC sitcom Seinfeld with Larry David, playing a version of himself from 1989 to 1998 and winning a Golden Globe. He then returned to stand-up with the special I'm Telling You for the Last Time (1998) and the documentary Comedian (2002). He co-wrote and starred in Bee Movie (2007) and directed, co-wrote, and starred in Unfrosted (2024). He created and hosted Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and created The Marriage Ref. His specials include Jerry Before Seinfeld (2017) and 23 Hours to Kill (2020), and his awards include a Primetime Emmy and three Actor Awards.

Seinfeld graduated in 1976, then tried an open-mic night at Catch a Rising Star in New York City. That tryout brought him a spot in a Rodney Dangerfield HBO special.
