Plot summary
Father Sweeney, a priest living with HIV, takes his own life, and David Foley, an investigative journalist, writes a story that makes Sweeney's HIV public. At a seminary, two students near ordination, Daniel McLaughlin and Niall, are expelled for the sake of appearances after Daniel is seen leaving Niall's room, though nothing happened between them and Daniel is straight. Daniel returns home, caught between the priesthood he is preparing for and his feelings for his former girlfriend, Sinead. He meets Foley, who is reporting on the Vatican's silence over broken vows of celibacy, and Foley's follow-up article takes up Daniel's dismissal from the seminary.
