Hank Mann
Biography
Hank Mann was a comedian and silent screen performer who began his film career as one of the original Keystone Cops under Mack Sennett. Born in the Russian Empire and raised in New York City from childhood, he later made silent comedies for William Fox and Morris R. Schlank. When sound arrived, he shifted to bit parts and background work, appearing as a reporter in The Maltese Falcon (1941) and a photographer in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. He had larger talking roles as a hotel manager in Crime by Night (1944) and, alongside Chester Conklin, as a bartender in the Bob Hope comedy Son of Paleface (1952). His famous bit as a glass door attendant came in the Three Stooges short Men in Black (1934). He continued with small parts in television comedies and Jerry Lewis films during the 1960s, and his film work was recognized with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
