George Voskovec

George Voskovec was a Czech-American actor who worked in theater and film. Born in Sázava, Bohemia, he studied in Prague and Dijon, France. In 1927 he joined the Liberated Theater with Jan Werich, and by 1929 the two controlled it, writing and directing its revues; their stage became known for Czech clowning. He later appeared in seventy-two movies, most of them American or British. He was best known for playing the courteous Juror 11 in 12 Angry Men (1957). His other films included The Boston Strangler (1968), in which he played the psychic Peter Hurkos, and The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965). His final film was Barbarosa (1982). He also appeared in Somewhere in Time (1980) and on television in The Nativity (1978) and as Fritz Brenner in Nero Wolfe (1981). On Broadway in 1961 he starred in Do You Know the Milky Way.
