George Maharis
Biography
George Maharis was an American actor, a singer, and a painter who played Buz Murdock during the first three seasons of Route 66. Born in Astoria, Queens, and raised in Hell's Kitchen, he got an early break on the comedy series Mister Peepers and later trained at the Actors Studio under Sanford Meisner and Lee Strasberg. Off-Broadway work brought him a Theatre World Award for his performance in The Zoo Story. He co-starred with Martin Milner on Route 66 and earned an Emmy nomination in 1962. His films included The Satan Bug (1965), A Covenant with Death (1967), and The Desperados (1969), and he played Count Machelli in The Sword and the Sorcerer (1982). He also starred as a criminologist in The Most Deadly Game, recorded pop albums, and worked as a painter.
