Gale Gordon
Biography
Gale Gordon was an American character actor known as Lucille Ball's longtime television foil. Born in New York City to performing parents, he began in radio, playing the first Flash Gordon in a 1935 serial, and on Fibber McGee and Molly he appeared as Mayor La Trivia; he also played principal Osgood Conklin on Our Miss Brooks, a role he kept for television. After declining Fred Mertz on I Love Lucy, he later played John Wilson on Dennis the Menace. He then joined Ball's sitcoms as banker Theodore J. Mooney on The Lucy Show and blustery boss Harrison Otis Carter on Here's Lucy, and later Curtis McGibbon on Life with Lucy. His film work included Rally 'Round the Flag, Boys! (1958), Visit to a Small Planet (1960) and The 'Burbs (1989). He earned four Primetime Emmy nominations and a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
