Fernando Lamas

The Argentine-American actor and director Fernando Lamas began his career as a leading man during the Golden Age of Argentine cinema. Born in Buenos Aires, he appeared in films including Frontera Sur and Stella, and he was reportedly the country's third biggest star before making his first American picture, The Avengers, in 1950. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer signed him and cast him largely in Latin lover roles, with occasional singing in musicals. He was Esther Williams' leading man in Dangerous When Wet (1953) and had a supporting part in the remake Rose Marie (1954). Later credits include The Lost World (1960), 100 Rifles (1969), the television movie Murder on Flight 502 (1975) and The Cheap Detective (1978). From 1965 to 1968 he played a regular role on Run for Your Life, and he went on to direct feature films and television episodes. He was nominated for a Tony Award for the Broadway musical Happy Hunting.
