Esther Ralston
Biography
Esther Ralston was an American silent film actress who started out as a child in a family vaudeville act before taking small roles in silent pictures. Born in Bar Harbor, Maine, she was the older sister of the actor Howard Ralston. She gained notice as Mrs. Darling in the 1924 version of Peter Pan, and in the late 1920s she made many films for Paramount, becoming especially popular in the United Kingdom. She appeared mainly in comedies, often billed above the title as spirited society girls, and also earned good reviews for dramatic parts. By the mid-1930s she was largely relegated to supporting roles, and her last leading part came in To the Last Man (1933). Her final film was Tin Pan Alley in 1940, and she went on to work in stage, radio, and television, including the daytime drama Our Five Daughters in 1962. In 1985 she published an autobiography, Some Day We'll Laugh.
