Biography

Dee Snider is an American musician, radio host and television personality who joined Twisted Sister in 1976 as the heavy metal band's lead vocalist and sole songwriter. The 1984 album Stay Hungry yielded the hits We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock, and the first reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the UK chart. He left the group in 1987 and later formed Desperado and Widowmaker, released solo records, and wrote and headlined the horror film Strangeland (1998). He also hosted the syndicated hard rock radio program House of Hair and played a dive bar owner in Future Folk (2012). Twisted Sister reunited and toured from 2003 through 2016, and Hit Parader ranked him No. 83 among the top metal vocalists of all time.

  1. Behind the camera

    Dee Snider wrote the Christmas song "The Magic of Christmas Day (God Bless Us Everyone)", which Celine Dion recorded for her album These Are Special Times, and according to Snider, Dion did not know who had written it.

    Dee Snider hosted the first episode of Heavy Metal Mania, MTV's first all-heavy-metal video program, which aired in June 1985 with metal news, interviews and in-studio co-hosts.

  3. Beyond film

    In 1997, Snider started hosting a syndicated radio show called The House of Hair, which played 1980s hard rock and heavy metal on over 200 stations across North America. He signed off with the catchphrase "If it ain't metal, it's crap!"

  4. A change of course

    In early 1976, Snider joined Twisted Sister and became its only songwriter. Co-writing attempts failed, so he mostly worked by himself, bringing completed songs, with simple guitar and drum parts, to the band.
