David Graf
Biography
David Graf was an American actor who was known for his portrayal of the trigger-happy officer Eugene Tackleberry in the Police Academy comedies. He grew up in Ohio, studied theater at Otterbein College and attended Ohio State University for graduate work until he left in 1975 to act. He first appeared on television as a contestant on The $20,000 Pyramid in 1979, then took small parts in popular series of the early 1980s. His film debut came with Four Friends (1981), and the role of Tackleberry in Police Academy (1984) led to appearances in all of its sequels. Other films included Suture (1993), The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), where he played a butcher named Sam Franklin, and the Disney Channel movie Brink! (1998). He also guest starred on The West Wing, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and was a Screen Actors Guild representative on the union's national board. He died in 2001.

Graf's first time on television came in December 1979, when he was a contestant on The $20,000 Pyramid and was paired with actress Patty Duke.
Early training
Graf studied theater at Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio, and graduated in 1972. He then went to graduate school at The Ohio State University, leaving in 1975 to pursue acting.
A change of course
Graf also served as a Hollywood union representative for the Screen Actors Guild, sitting on its national board and on committees for TV-theatrical steering and national disciplinary review. He pushed for fair treatment and better working conditions for actors.
