Dana Gillespie
Biography
English performer Dana Gillespie has worked as a singer, songwriter and actress since she began recording as a teenager. Her early music moved between folk and teen pop, including a 1965 single, Thank You Boy, produced by Jimmy Page, who also played on her 1968 debut album, Foolish Seasons. She sang backing vocals on It Ain't Easy from David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album, and her version of Andy Warhol appeared on her 1973 album Weren't Born a Man, which Bowie and Mick Ronson produced. On stage, she originated Mary Magdalene in the London premiere of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1972 and appeared on its original cast album. Her later work turned to blues, with the London Blues Band and, during the 1980s, the Austrian Mojo Blues Band. She has recorded over 70 albums and organizes a yearly blues festival on Mustique at Basil's Bar.
