Plot summary
Arthur Parker, a wealthy steel magnate, tells his wife Henrietta and their daughter Dot about a supervisor at his plant who rushed in and saved two co-workers, and who turned down the thousand dollars Parker offered him as a reward. Dot says she would like to know a man like him. Parker tells her the man is coming to dinner that evening. Henrietta dislikes the idea of entertaining someone outside their class, but Parker, a better judge of character, assures her all will be well. At dinner Dot is smitten with Dick Brunton and bets her father that she can get Dick to marry her within four weeks. Dick has misgivings about the distance between their circumstances.
