Big break
Travers got his big break playing the lead in Geordie (1955), which Frank Launder directed. The movie did well in Britain and the US, so Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer signed him and took him to Hollywood.
A role that slipped away
Powell and Pressburger wanted Travers for the lead in Ill Met by Moonlight, but Dirk Bogarde was given the role instead.
A change of course
Before he began working in show business, Travers spent time in the British Army, where he was with Gurkha and special forces units.
