Biography

Anders Danielsen Lie is a Norwegian actor, musician and physician. He was born in Oslo and made his screen debut at eleven in the title role of Herman, then stayed away from acting for sixteen years while studying at the University of Oslo. Joachim Trier asked him to audition for Reprise (2006), and he went on to lead the director's Oslo trilogy: Reprise, Oslo, August 31st (2011) and The Worst Person in the World (2021). He is known for complicated, sometimes unstable characters, and acts in Norwegian, English and French; in The Night Eats the World (2018) he played his part in two languages. His other films include Bergman Island (2021) and 22 July (2018). He won the National Society of Film Critics prize as best supporting actor in 2022, and Time named that performance one of 2021's ten best. He made his stage debut in Closer in 2017 and has released two albums.
