Renate Reinsve
Biography
Renate Reinsve is a Norwegian actress who trained at Oslo's National Academy of the Arts and spent her first years on stage in Trondheim at Trøndelag Teater, joining Oslo's Det Norske Teatret in 2016. Her feature debut came in Joachim Trier's Oslo, August 31st (2011), and her international breakthrough was as Julie in Trier's The Worst Person in the World (2021), which won her the best actress award at Cannes and a BAFTA nomination. Her other films include A Different Man (2024), Another End (2024) and Armand (2024), for which she was nominated for a European Film Award. Her role in Trier's Sentimental Value (2025) brought nominations for the Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe for Best Actress. She was also cast in the science-fiction film Backrooms (2026), appeared in Presumed Innocent (2024), a legal thriller series, and reunited with Sebastian Stan for Fjord, which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes.

Big break
Reinsve said on Late Night with Seth Meyers that she thought about leaving acting the day before she got the part of Julie, and carpentry was her backup plan. In 2021 she played Julie in Joachim Trier's The Worst Person in the World.
A role that slipped away
Renate Reinsve was cast in the horror film Weapons in May 2023, but had to drop out because production delays from the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes created schedule conflicts, and Julia Garner replaced her.
