Amanda Barrie
Biography
Amanda Barrie is an English actress and dancer who appeared in pantomime as a child and spent years as a West End chorus girl. She trained at the Arts Educational Schools and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, made her West End debut in Babes in the Wood in 1961, and had her screen debut in Operation Bullshine in 1959. Her film work included two Carry On comedies: she played a cab driver in a supporting part in Carry On Cabby (1963) and the title role in Carry On Cleo (1964). She later played Mrs. B.J. Spence in One of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing (1975). On television she was Alma Halliwell in Coronation Street on and off for 20 years, then Bev Tull in Bad Girls from 2003 to 2006. She published an autobiography, It's Not A Rehearsal, in 2004, and a second, I'm Still Here, in 2025.
