Plot summary
In the near future, a test called Life Day Count can estimate how long someone is likely to live. Mort, a mortician in the San Fernando Valley, takes it with his fiancé Nicole as the two try to buy a house. Nicole learns she has nearly sixty more years. Mort learns he has 345 days. Unwilling to marry a man expected to die so soon, Nicole ends the engagement and takes up with a man who has decades ahead of him. Mort falls into despair, and Sid, his friend from work, urges him to make more of his remaining time. Mort signs up with a dating service for people with short life expectancies and meets Kate, who works there.
