Plot summary
Caitlyn Enderby spends her days as an assistant to Abigail Miller, the editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine Appliqué, while designing clothes of her own on the side. When Prince Jeffrey and Lady Isabelle Collins arrive in New York for a royal charity ball on New Year's Eve, Isabelle notices one of Caitlyn's designs and asks her to make the gown she will wear that night, where the prince is expected to propose. Abigail, who wants the occasion to showcase work by her daughter Leighton, buries Caitlyn in tasks for the same event. Jeffrey slips away from his royal obligations to move around the city unrecognized, and Caitlyn takes him for a model trying to break in.
