Plot summary
After her husband Fred dies in a fall from the roof, Joyce Smith learns from her probate attorney that he owed a large amount on a loan and had only $2,200 in savings. In a library she finds a magazine about turning a home into a bed and breakfast, and she opens her house to lodgers. Sarah and her husband Edward are the first to stay; Joyce takes to Sarah, though Edward dislikes her manner, and the couple leave while Sarah keeps writing to her. A young man named Robert then moves in. Joyce cooks special meals, dresses to impress him, and installs a satellite dish for his football channel.
