Plot summary
The trip takes Mara to the Rogue River, deep in the Oregon wilderness, where she means to scatter her father's ashes. When she returns for her car, she finds that the local sheriff has towed it, and she is stranded with no transport and no way to call for help. A kindly older man named Jon, a stranger to her, offers a ride and a bed for the night at his cabin, and she reluctantly accepts because she has no other choice. Once she is inside the cabin, he abducts her and puts her through hours of emotional and physical torture.
