Plot summary
Victor Garnier owns a hunting and fishing shop, and he has put the family's life savings into an African mine on the advice of his banker, André Durand-Mareuil. The mine is nationalized and the shares become worthless. Feeling that the bank has robbed him, Victor decides to rob the bank in return, with the help of his wife Éliane and their children Isabelle, Gérard and Corinne, who were all duped in the same affair. He settles on digging a tunnel. The work is demanding even for professionals, and each of the family carries a personal downside: Éliane has a habit of blurting out the truth, even in front of the grumpy local policeman, which is a risk when a plan must stay secret.
