Plot summary
Burke Wyatt was dismissed from the police three years ago over the force he used to subdue a criminal. Separated from his wife Mary, he sees his son Tommy part time and wants his old job back. His former partner Steve James, now an FBI agent, brings him an investigation: inmates at Cainsville State Penitentiary have been dying violently, and the warden, Carl Golan, is suspected of staging fights to the death for paying viewers. Burke is offered a trust fund for Tommy and reinstatement if he goes inside. To enter without suspicion, he assaults an officer, steals a squad car and surrenders. Sentenced and shipped to the prison, he draws the attention of Milton Kennedy, known as The President, who runs its largest gang.
