Plot summary
Riddick has grown uneasy as Lord Marshal of the Necromonger fleet, so he strikes a deal with Commander Vaako and travels toward his homeworld, Furya, on a Necromonger ship. The planet he is left on is not Furya, and his escort tries to kill him there; a landslide buries him and he crawls out with a broken leg. He splints it, learns which creatures hunt the ground, hides in ruins, and raises an orphaned jackal-beast pup while he builds immunity to Mud Demon venom. Storms are coming that will wake the swarms underground. At an empty mercenary station he triggers a beacon that broadcasts his name, and two ships answer: bounty hunters under Santana and a professional crew under Boss Johns. Riddick leaves them a message promising to kill them unless they leave him a ship.
