Plot summary
Margaret runs her life with care: a businesswoman in Albany, New York, raising her daughter Abbie, who is about to leave for college, and carrying on an affair with Peter, a married co-worker. At a work conference she sees David, a figure from her past, in the room, and a panic attack sends her home. She keeps Abbie from going out to see a friend and grows irritable, dreaming of a baby in an oven. Spotting David again while shopping, she grabs Abbie and runs. The police give her no help, so she changes the locks and buys a gun.
