Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Act of Valor (2012)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • The filmmakers decided that no actors could realistically fill the roles they had written, so actual Navy SEALs were drafted to star in the film. They and the Special Boat Team members remained anonymous: none of their names appear in the credits.
  • The Navy held final cut privileges on the film so that it could remove any frames that raised security concerns, and it kept the raw footage shot during production to use for real-life training and other purposes.
  • Cinematographer Shane Hurlbut shot the film on Canon EOS 5D Mark II cameras with Zeiss ZE and Panavision Primo lenses, and mounted an 18mm Zeiss lens on the SEALs' helmets so the cameras followed their planned missions from their own point of view.
  • After a bidding war with Dark Castle, Alcon, Lionsgate and FilmDistrict, Relativity Media bought the finished film on 12 June 2011 for $13 million plus a $30 million prints and advertising commitment, which Deadline Hollywood called the biggest money ever paid for a finished film with an unknown cast.
  • For the Cambodian section of the shoot, the filmmakers staged an explosion in Phnom Penh with 300 children working as extras in the scene.
