Plot summary
Before the change, Snoop Dogg made his name with gangsta raps and G-funk beats, starting out on Death Row Records and releasing a debut, Doggystyle, that outsold every debut before it. The documentary opens on that past, his years at the label, the deaths of Tupac and Nate Dogg, and a murder charge he faced in 1996. Then it turns to his decision to join the Rastafari faith and take a new musical direction. He goes to Jamaica to cut a reggae album, works with Bunny Wailer, Diplo and other reggae artists on the Reincarnated record, which is about love and nonviolence, and takes the name Snoop Lion. Wailer acts as his guide into the faith, and Snoop talks about his reasons for becoming Rasta and about the heavy marijuana smoking common among Rastafari.
